When coal burns in the fluid bed, some of the ash and the stones, etc.accumulate in the fluid bed. These large particles have to be drained from the bed to maintain stable fluidization. A small amount of bed material will be drained periodically from bottom of the bed to remove the stones and small clinkers if any.
